SAFER SPACES
We are grateful for your support of our venue and collective. Our commitment is to continually work so that ABSURD is an inclusive space for everyone—patrons, staff, performers, and community members alike. Everyone deserves to participate in an environment free from harassment, discrimination, and violence.
We have been organizing within the city for some time now and we are committed to learning from our past shortcomings. This short policy outlines our commitment to maintaining safer spaces at our events. We stand firmly against:
-
Hate speech, including sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, and religious discrimination.
-
Sexual harassment and unwanted attention.
-
Physical violence, intimidation, or threats.
-
Disrespectful behaviour towards our venue, staff, performers, and attendees.
If you witness or experience harmful behaviour, we encourage you to reach out to us. You can talk to us in person at a show, contact us via social media, or reach out privately at any time.
We want to create a larger community of accountability; therefore, we want you to feel supported when raising concerns.
We are seeking advice and feedback from SACE in the development of our full safer spaces policy.
